Authorities have revealed that Don Steven McDougal, 42, has been charged with first-degree murder in relation to her demise. The day after Audrii vanished, McDougal was taken into custody on an unrelated assault allegation, but the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said that he was soon designated as a person of interest.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that McDougal was charged with capital murder in relation to Audrii’s death after her corpse was found on February 20.

Authorities say McDougal was the last person seen with Audrii, and the guy had previously been entrusted with her care. According to investigators, he resided in a trailer on Audrii’s family’s land, as reported by CNN.

According to Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons, McDougal allegedly admitted to detectives that he left the house with Audrii the morning she disappeared but he would not provide any further details, ABC 13 previously reported. According to court documents cited by FOX 26, KHOU 11, and Click 2 Houston, McDougal has prior convictions for child enticement.
